Election Yemeni President Begins Today

Reading AlwaysYemen soon enter the era of a new government with the end of the reign of President Ali Abdullah Saleh. Today, the people of Yemen to vote in the presidential election to Vice President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi as the sole candidate.

Reuters news agency reported Tuesday, February 21, 2012, long lines were seen outside polling stations in Sanaa. For people, this election is seen as the path to the future of Yemen, the resumption of the nation from scratch.

The night before the election, the peace was marred by an explosion at a polling station in the city of Aden, southern Yemen. One soldier was killed and a colleague injured in the incident.

In order to maintain public order, security officers conducted a raid against the Southern Movement which tried to dissuade citizens participate in elections. "These elements tried to blow away the fear in the community that the elections will take place February 21 riot," said the officer.

If later Mansour was elected as the new leader of Yemen, it ended Saleh regime that has lasted for 33 years. Previously, Saleh had said he would actually pull out if the people of Yemen has appointed a new leader.

The situation has been heating up since Saleh of Yemen signed a treaty handover of power in Riyadh in November last year. For a while Yemen was ruled by a caretaker prime minister Mohammad Basindwa which form a government of national reconciliation that would rule until elections can be held.
